state of confusion

The teakettle’s whistle
seems far away,
although my fingers could
skim steam
from where I sit,
in his small kitchen
with red walls.

it is the amber time of day;
winds tease mantis patterns
across gossamer curtains.
he has a singular smile:
a secret.

I suspect the tea he pours
is not from black leaves,

but infused by flowers.
Once drunk,
two faces will lean in
to kiss mine

and his tongue will graze
forked stripes
along my throat

like wax
from a candle aloft.

I’ll awaken at 2 a.m.,
leave before he sips
my regret.

Interesting, and that's a good thing

Whoa Corinne, I love where your words take me. Have I told you lately, how brilliant I think you are?

It's a keeper.

2 am is a beautiful hour, isn't it?
