Drinking water asylum in handcuffs Emerging coughing and blowing serge Dog-paddling under irrigative flesh and blood Opaque, cloudy with rich nutrients I will write my name across this voice with fire Rising above, Lord rising above In some deranged honor, Light shines through pores of skin Knowing every inch by heart Discarded furniture, favors verandas facing east Catching lifting river breezes Like a prayer on a native tongue Wrapping my arms around holy cities, Hanging on for dear life Am I the tomorrow that returns home? Telling of weak moments, when I found myself? Falling in love with my own story all over again Slow walks with intimate truths To only crave more the warmth of solitude Did you ever notice pretenders? Ones, hoping to catch dirty laundry Wringing every stint of moisture out of love Labors of spring cleaning look me straight in the eye With a special group rate for graduating seniors Still extended greetings Slim wastes give superlative performances There is no matter of character, ambition, or passions Knocking on their white picketed gates? Only high octane of their own fanatical codes Beautiful woman whose soul possesses trends Ones which discuss the devil’s incarnate Giving all those around them, the bloody bends She carves notches from the old women’s screams Feeds off the swiftness of cruelty And still the voice of hand reaches out In pure possibility of forgiven beaches I watch the anonymous images in her reflections Viewing her colors with eyes closed Trying not to turn away, from over exposure There was not one figure in her life That held her close to breast feed Or the staying power or friends She’s always taken corners on two wheels Closing all her windows I stand at the crossroads, wounded Black and blue imprints to prove it Always remembering that defensive voice Reminding me, always whispering "You cannot give what you’ve never known" And so, again, the ice in this country melts Flushing out my arrival, trying no more Even the streets appeal to my willingness to believe With much regard for the herds of stampedes That slowly trampled me, There I was, laying face down in the dirt Reaching up with one arm and Somehow, someway, someone Was always there reaching out Feeling quite relieved for those rolling eyes You know the ones, fatherless children always get Cause maternal love was always there Teaching me the language |

You have such powerful imagery. Of course, this is just one example of your poem filled with much. You have such a keen mind. miscellanea |

the title of this poem, alone, drew me in.. it's one of my favorite quotes, almost.. "I lamented for I had no shoes until I saw the man who had no feet". Great work. |
