Ophelia’s Secret (1866, Insane Asylum Number 3) Where is it, that your mind has gone, Ophelia? Are you looking at me, or him? That bog Hamlet! Can you not see me, or hear me whispering your name? Calling out: “Here I am, your true love, Ophelia…” Oh, if I were half the retched man your father is I would… …No… I must not think such horrific thoughts, Ophelia, for your sake. Maybe there is that one small chance you will awaken from this illness, which has overtaken you… Here I must be, I must be here to hold you, my beloved Ophelia… I must not tempt fate. Although, I would… I most certainly would. Why do you look at that man Hamlet? He only wants your youth. Only for his own sake! Hamlet is not like his father, yet there are those that say he is, however, they are incorrect in that assumption. He is not the man for you… My Ophelia…. Listen to my heart, Ophelia. It is singing to your heart. Can you hear it, can you? Maybe, I should have this-one fall, this young Hamlet. Just as his father did, from the poison in his ear… That is what I could do for you Ophelia. I could do that my love. Yes… I think I shall.Hamlet the younger will pass on as did his father, with a poison in his ear…. But I must be careful not to be caught in Hamlet’s trap. He would most certainly set a trap for me, if he knew my love for you… He most certainly would… I must be silent about my plan… No one should know. No one! I will write it down on this parchment and carry it close to my heart. My heart and yours, Ophelia… I know that look in your eyes, Ophelia. I know that love you hold for me. But you restrain it within your heart, to hide it from him… But why do you bring him with you each time you visit me? Why can you not find your way to me without that retched Hamlet at your side? I peer out this small window awaiting your return, Ophelia… My mind is convinced you shall belong to me, and your mind and heart will too. When I complete my undertaking that work that I must do… Being rid of that Hamlet! He thinks I will give you up to him With his silly notions and potions, and whim… Lookin into my eyes with his luminous stick searching for that parchment, That writing in my head In there where he says I am sick… I think not Hamlet! Unlock this door and let me free! Untie these retched garments from my body That is what I shall say to that filthy bog! I watch you, Hamlet, with my Ophelia. I see that gaze in your eyes And I know what I should do… ::: I know your secret, Ophelia… I know… I know… It is mine too… |

My heart be still! The great William himself would be smiling at this fine rendition! If only Shakespeare had written as ye have done, then I would have enjoyed his works even more! ![]() Love & Light, EA |
