"Have You Heard?"

You are a secret heart song,
wrapped in a warm and lusty hue,
a memory, a taste of morning dew,
refreshing a lover’s glow
brushed anew upon a canvas,
blank and primed
but for an indeterminate time.

But perhaps you are a fantasy,
a simple pastel memory
of someone I once knew
but dared not risk to touch?

I was never the bold one,
and kept the secret to myself,
for the safety of you,
and my own self preservation.

Some songs stay deep within the senses,
and surface randomly when least expected.
Today was such a resurfaced moment,
when a sound, an image, a thought of you
played itself out
from underneath hidden layers of feelings,
left me reeling with nothing to sustain my rhythm,
‘til my heart found the bass line on terra firma,
while ZZ did spin me over the top.

And here I sit, feeling the tune of you
swaying my body in rhythmic start,
leaning precariously over a precipice,
music pouring from
the outer edges of my heart.

Being slightly (HA) older...sheesh, I am
not too much in tune with ZZ Top...But, now
I feel just a bit younger and closer, thanx
to you...
