O willow bend thy slender bough into the waters nigh. Into the sunset harkening beneath a summer’s skies. O willow stand the timeless task o’er shadows cool beside the still clear pool of watering where frogs and minnows hide. And from thy branch of slenderness shall not thy be a switch to tame the maverick child of birth born from a barber’s itch. For willows sway the tender breeze at dawn before the morn. A time for dreams to pillow stay as sheep are then twice shorn. |

Barry, I have a willow in my front yard and we had willows surrounding the pond on the farm in southwestern Ohio where I grew up. This poem took me back to a time when a young girl sat on the banks of the pond making wishes and watching dragonflys sacrifice themselves to pond critters, skipping a stone or two and watching the circles as they edged out to capture me within their embrace. Your poem pulled all that out.....beautiful! ....jo |

Barry The imagery is beautiful throughout, but I partiularly liked the switch in theme in this part: "And from thy branch of slenderness shall not thy be a switch to tame the maverick child of birth born from a barber’s itch." Well done, dear man! |

This is very beautiful, it brought back memories for me too ... when the heat made it impossible to sleep and when just me and a willow's branch, which I used as a fan, watched the stars all night long ... Love, Margherita |

Your poetry also transported me under the willows by the pond. It seemed to be the favorite spot of frogs and bass. There I always managed to get my line and bobber caught up in the willow! Very beautiful, Magnus! |

It is a pleasure that upon my return from a weekend away I am able to read your beautiful words, and about my favorite tree. I needed such beauty tonight, for I feel sadly empty. Thank you for the gift. Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |
