He came at me,
Bearing down on me,
Murder in his heart and eyes,
About to consume me.

I'd bought him here myself I think,
My darkness called to him,
He wanted to share in my soul's disembowelment,
Feed off my pain and grin.

Dark, evil being with only thoughts of destruction,
I'm NOT the one you're after,
Things are better now!
I can still hear his laughter!!

Huddled in a corner, frozen in fear,
Look what I've down now,
Released an imp from hell itself,
Got to rid myself of him somehow.

Everything human, every weakness,
Is strength to him, and power,
He'll take all he can get his foul claws on,
Limply I can only cower.

A blue light extended from his eyes,
With which to drink my essence,
It pulled me in, I have no control,
Could even smell the evil presence.

'I love you!' I said,
'I love everything in this world',
'I love myself most of all,'
'There is nothing here for you!'

The blue light flickered and faltered,
Slowly it was dying,
'I shouldn't have called you,' I said.
'Find another who's soul is sighing!'

He weakened then,
The vision of him wavering,
He wore a mask I saw,
I reached up and grabbed it then, feeling quite empowering.

I pulled off the mask,
And to my horror,
Right before my eyes,
I looked into the face of death.

My own death actually,
On his face was mine, grey as a corpse,
If I hadn't spoken of loving and saving,
I'd have become a part of him, with no hope for divorce.

I look at 'Scream' in a new way now,
For I know what can lie behind a mask,
Death, even your own if you are weak,
Thank God it's now all in the past.

This scared me.. not the death.. but the confrontation....What I am afraid of, is whether or not I would have the strength to say what the charactor in the poem had the courage to say...

Thanks For Never, that is the ONE thing I am not afraid to say, never have been! If people don't like it, they aren't worth knowing in my book. Thanks for your response, I like Changeling the best too!!

Oh, to become what we fear, what we loathe. Some say you cannot hate what you have not first loved, you cannot fear what you don't first respect. This poems chills me, Isis.
Wonderful, as always.

Stanza 6 draws me in with its blue-eyed tractor-beam intensity.

Very, very.

Whew...I'm getting dizzy reading all these great words of you and everyone.
It's so hard to be absent for awhile and try to catch up. Woman you amaze me...well done.
