My parents fight in a distant room. Neglected and numb, I try to drift into a blissfully ignorant sleep. I count the tiles on the wall. I count the threats in my father's words. I count the sorrows in my mother's sobs. I count on calm that never comes. Still, I remain helplessly awake, captured in the sugar coated prison of childhood. ------------------ Grant that I may not judge my niegbor until I have walked a mile in his moccasians Native American prayer |

I hope this is not a product of your childhood agony..No child should go through that pain & confusion...((hugs)) ------------------ "No one was ever ruined from without; The final ruin comes from within.".....Amelia E. Barr |

Your poem hit home somewhere inside me... ouch... and lots of pain came with it too. I remember how eager I was at first to grow up and understand, and then when I finally did how much I missed being as ignorant as I was, and oblivious to my parents' fighting. I love the second part, wonderful. Just wonderful. |

moonmoom..thanks for the comment and the concern. Actually, this is a product of my childhood...and this is most likely representitive of the least painful experiences. But time has done wonders...and I am approaching feeling as if I "come to terms" with this past. Having children has helped me in finding some reason for my childhood..I know exactly how I could never be with my own children. This has made me a better parent, I am sure. You are certainly right about no child should endure anything like this. Emmy..thanks for what you said. I know what you mean about not understanding...I sometimes wish I could have denied certain things forever.. ------------------ God is seen always in a child's eyes |

This is a good poem with a great message. Wish it could somehow be given to all children around the world that have to go to sleep listening to anger! Thank you for sharing a bit of yourself with us. |
