I stood and watched the parade today my first in many years Fewer here than last I came the memories bring on tears It’s been some time since the war but every year they march Scars and crippled, homeless, riddled uniforms doused in starch A chance to serve, a young man’s dream to go and win the battle The terror that soon meets him would make your stoned head rattle Although I see it turning grey It seems like only yesterday Parades I wish they’d go away ------------------ |

I like this a lot, but I think a better title might be parades? ------------------ Thinking is just what a great many people think they are doing when they are merely rearranging their predjudices. |

Parades was the title when I started to write it. Go Away became the emotional title because I really do wish they would. Sometimes you don't need reminders. It's better to keep movin on. This is my personal take. I know there are others that say we should never forget. -RS USMC 67-70 Graduate University of South Vietnam ThanX for stopping by [This message has been edited by FreeByrd (edited 11-13-1999).] |

Very powerful indeed FreeByrd. I was introduced to poetry on a diet of mainly Wilfred Owen (british first world war satirist). A lot of the emotions and sentiments you express are very similar to those in his poems. Ever read any? |

Thanks to all of you for your input. It is what makes me keep on trying. MacBeth No I haven't read any Wilfred Owen. I will certainly give him a try. |
