Unloved,
unwanted,
such words reverberate
through my soul
echoing voices
of past prejudice
and spite
seeding the belief
in my own
unworth
yet the blade
sings
a seductive song
promising
an end
to pain

Like Sirens calling Odysseus
does her adamant allure
blind my mind
to the exigent pain
defining
my existence
through it all
I hear
but one voice
calling me
asking that I remain,
yet
even that dulcet song
fades
from my ears
growing distant
no longer can I hear
words
only a sense
of urgency
that rivals
Death's own

The blade
before me
promises
one last quick pain
then into
peaceful repose
will I fall
a red haze
across my eyes
darkens
to embryonic black
wherein
shall I find
sweet release
from constant demands
and strangling
ties that bind
those tethers
will the blade
cut clean

In the end
did I seduce her
or
did I but become
seduced
by the blade

You know my thoughts on this so I won't belabor the point here. Though I find the subject abhorrent, I have to admit you have a way with words....

You are so intelligent, why can't you turn your mind to the gentleness in life...hear that one voice of peace..take the hand of forgiveness...isn't it time to let go of the pain of the past and move forward into the future? I can't imagine what it would be like to live this way...I try to be an upbeat person and even when I'm depressed, I tell myself I'll get over it. I watch children play - it's a wonderful antidepressant! I listen to music..soft gentle music or raucous, knee-slapping music. I won't let myself be defeated by the feeling....I wish you would find a way to let go of your pain...Sometimes pretending to be fine eventually conditions your mind to think you are fine..and then magically you truly are! Try it.. it's not a form of lying or cheating.. the mind is a wondrous thing...use it for healing not hurting....I say this as your friend..as someone who cares about you.

Darkly seductive -- how I enjoy your "blade" series!

And the final stanza -- what an irony! Well put, as always, my friend. You've got me thinking.

Embryonic black... sounds so restful and safe.

September 30, 1659. I, poor, miserable Robinson Crusoe, being shipwrecked, during a dreadful storm in the offing, came ashore on this dismal unfortunate island, which I called "the Island of Despair," all the rest of the ship's company being drowned, and myself almost dead.

I have not read your other posts in the Blade series as I am new here but if they are half as good a read as this one than I certainly will hunt them down and read them as well.
Having been trained in Kendo (Japanese sword fighting) this poem struck a chord in me. I too have some poems that involve the lure of the edge.
great poem
