My friend Mort came calling again I invited him in with a knowing grin And we both sat down on the couch I asked him if he wanted a beer He responded with his usual leer And so I got us some cold ones All through the night we sat and stared acting as if we didn't care Then we flipped to PBS When the anthem was through The screen turned vivid blue And we just watched in silence And with an impatient sigh he turned to me I popped him where his eye used to be And we began again the fight The cold spread from his bony touch I said to him, "I don't know much, but I won't die tonight." Quick as a wink he backed away I'd avoided judgment day But he'd be back again tomorrow... |
