Hidden from the eye
but nonetheless present--
their corners gather around me.

And though sight might fail me,
I feel them--shutting,
entrapping me alone
with my fantasies
   of flesh,
   of ingratiation,
   of redemption.

Sometimes when people forget
how uncaring they can be,
these walls
converge--denying
me the breath of
   life, love,
even a chance with myself.

And in the minutest expectancy--
the merest window
is conceived,
   by a stranger's touch, or
   by a Sarah Mclachlan song.
A window big enough--
to see God in that child's eyes,
or feel Him in that bird's flight,
or hear Him in that brief silence.

And someday..
a brotherly gesture of an outreached hand
might be the only key
out of these walls which are..
sadly.. of my own making.

I'm going to study on this one a while... you given us a savory onion it seems... with layer upon layer to peel away and discover more each time.

Yesterday is ash, tomorrow is smoke; only today does the fire burn.

I like the wisdom in this one.
