IV "It all began," my precious dove narrated to me one cold night, "so long ago-- I was in love-- Ah, me! with a great, valiant knight. "He kept me safe, and loved, you see, although he promised not his hand." She turned her face away from me, and cried: "I could not understand his meaning or his wish for me to stay away, not be his bride. But soon enough I came to see the reason for his awful pride. I found him once, in secret glen where we had used to meet, my dear. Yes! Look not shocked! Your little wren is tainted! Oh, that wretched year! I saw him with another girl. Yes, he had played us false. But once deception is unfurled, the heart, it knows not truth, nor cause. I wandered, much as you have, love. In countryside and dale and farm, I sought my fate. Your fragile dove quite courted death and earthly harm. 'Til one pale night about the town I met a man-- yes, e'en like you. He did not smile, nor did he frown, he did not speak. This, did he do:" She showed me on the flawless skin across her throat, two little spots-- I knew that mark! My blood grew thin at realizing what I'd caught! A vampire! No eternal soul in Christian sense, but still eternal. Bless'ed is the ragged fool who bit her! And her "love," infernal! They have given me a gift, A love, which aeons will remember as two realms healing ageless rift of heart, restoring love's bright ember. Happiest of all are we, impassioned creatures of the night. Two vampires met by Destiny Eternal in love's wing'ed flight. ... end ... |

I've always been facinated by vampires. They intrigue me greately. Thank you for that wonderful series of poems. Normally Rhyme bores me, and I write predominately in free verse, but this series was an exception. I loved it. Keep these coming. Jeffrey |

An Epic it is, a well written captivating epic! God grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can, and the wisdom to know it's me. ~Unknown |

Ditto. And with a happy ending for once. The poor vampires don't often get that! Uta Lotharingia "Wir wollen nicht Wert und Sinn ... wir wollen Unwert und Unsinn" Raoul Hausmann |
