I sat in the boat
Closed my eyes.

Senses assailed me.

Nostrils quivering
I inhaled
Brisk sea air
My eyes closed
I listened to soft waves
Slapping the side

That's when
I sensed him
Felt him
What I had come here for.

Slowly, I turned
Letting out my breath
I opened one eye
Met his steady gaze
He winked
And slowly drew
Back into the depths
Flicking his tail
In silent salute.

Tara, I *love* your poems. The way you express your love for animals is really remarkable, and the brief description of a fleeting whale sighting is just perfect!
