Chapstick

My lips aren't chapped anymore
You would always scold
Displeased with my lack of consideration
Lips dry and cracking after our prolonged separation
It was only when we were together
that they would tingle
Moistened by your touch
your affections kept them supple.

My lips aren't dry anymore
Embalmed daily with
over-the-counter medications
Humidified as I sleep
to combat the desolate arid evenings.

But such artificial fixes
Cannot substitute for your tender kisses
For as they once were warm with anticipation,
yearning for your smile's sweet invitation.
They now have nothing to look forward to
Ever since the day
i lost you.
