BORN LOSER

I'm a man of many passions,
But too often passion leads to pain.
Is there any end to the commotion
When emotion rules the brain?

I wasn't born to be a loser,
I just never slowed down to count the gains.
Must've rolled the dice too many times,
Only emptiness remains.

Guess I didn't know what was on the table,
It really didn't seem much at the time.
But when it's all taken from you,
At the unjust drop of a dime...

Time, itself, will slow down for you.
To account over and over again in your head,
What you have, what you had, what you're missing,
And why you feel you'd rather be dead.

And it's come to me in my searching,
It's nothing new for me to be so sad.
And it's not from what I lost or am missing,
It's simply something that I've never had.

See I've paid many prices for sticking to my guns.
And I've came out ahead when the chips were down.
Still nothing material in this God-forsaken world
Comforts the tears of a stargazing clown.

For no one hears me crying at night,
And if they did, they wouldn't care.
But I staked my heart to happiness,
So all in all, I guess the bill's fair.

But I wasn't born to be a loser,
Still, all I've ever won, I've won in vain.
I'd give it all, again, in a split second,
For someone who understood this pain.

maybe i'm younger and haven't experienced as much but i do know how you feel, believe it or not!   hang in there!  very powerfully written poem...flows so well...like the cadence of a voice.  i guess the saying is true, huh...you never know what you've got til it's gone.

Michael,

Very deep poem. Don't we all want someone that understands, one that we don't needs words with, one that knows with talking.  I hope you find that person.

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, not the kindly smile, not the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship."

M, I read this poem over an hour ago and it still effects me...I dont think I can put the reasons into words that would make sense...maybe its the things I see in your words, maybe its the pain and emotion you express with such heart wrenching pleas...
maybe its the things in me,in my life that I see in your words...at this time I'm not able to define it...
all I know is -- I see and feel the emotion you evoke in US when we read your words...how could this ever be seen as a loss...I wish you could see what we see...the poet behind the poem, the man between the lines...
born gifted M, not a loser, not ever.
sorry to go on so long...
you seem to have evoked one of my "emotional outbursts"(smile)
as always you inspire me...
take care, jm

Looking out at you...
and these words you say.
Do you not see the soul inside this man,
can you not see the man we see here today.
Sometimes we hear those voices...
the ones from deep down in our hearts.
Some times we follow blindly...
and from good judgment part.
But don't you see -- its who you are...
its your gift, never your sin or curse,
Its as much a part of your soul...
as your God given gift-- of rhyme and verse
I understand the losses
the things that have been taken away,
I understand the shadows,
the ones that bring darkness in each day.
But still-- when it all said and done
you are ... who you are...
a kind and loving man
whose words and heart shine like a celestial star.
They say good things come to those who believe ...
and for this,I pray to be true.
I believe in time we all have a turn...
I'd even give my turn to you.
I wish for you the vision ...
To see the things in you...we see,
to know the healing power of your words ...
and to find the ones that set you free.

she said I dont know if I've ever been good enough,
and I'm a little bit rusty, and I feel like my head is caving in.
...and I dont know if I've ever been really loved by a hand thats touched me...
and I feel like somethings gonna give...
and I'm a little bit angry.

Michael...
Some people walk in the dark always and they
till don't get lost acuse they carry a light around them...always...
I may not know much but i know for sure...
You are one of them!!!!
a born winner you may not have not been...
but you've won anyways...
Take a look at yourself from the eyes of others and you'll know what i mean...

no, we are not born losers. we just often are made to feel that way in the game of life. the saying that goes, what you give you will recieve. i don't know how much i believe in that. it seems like the ones who give the most, make the most sacrifices, in the name of happiness, love, and concern for others, seem to suffer the greatest losses, because they leave themselves open. i'm not saying that being open, caring, and loving, is bad. i've just come to realize that there is a price to be to be that way. all you can do is hope that it will be worth it in the end. and although it's hard to see now, i still believe with all my heart that it will be, worth it, in the end.
another wonderful poem, wherein every line, i could see pieces of myself.

I enjoyed reading this Michael...you are not a born loser..you are just having an incredibly lousy run of bad luck in the love department.  This will pass and the future will be brighter.    James

Hon I know we think this way occasionally but come on!!!!!!!!!!!
You have many attributes, I'll even embarrass you and list a few!! HAHA  You are cute, you have a wonderful son, you are a wonderous poet, you have many friends, you aer smart, loyal, starting a new business.  The only thing is your love life is not so hot at present.  Someone wonderful is waiting for you, you will find her.
You are improving everything in your life, some ladies would give their eye teeth for a guy as sweet as you, don't give it, keep looking.
Hell, I am more of a loser than you.
*HUGS*  Hope you feel better after writing this and venting a bit???
Always,
Your Partner in Crime,
Isis

I understand.. Sometimes we hurt just because we do.. our pain may not be rational to others.. but they are very real to us.  Yes, emotion rules our brains.. Our reliance on emotion, not logic is whhy we hurt sometimes.  That's just the way we are.. But would you change that?  I wouldnt.

This was a very deep poem...made me think.  But how can you feel this way when you are so truly blessed.  Incredible talent, beautiful son, your career and most importantly your health.

Lots of Hugs!!!!

Aiden, I don't believe this is a feeling that age is biased to.  I am only sad that you have come to experiance it too.

dhuron, Indeed, no words will be needed when you find the "one".  I think I'm getting closer...

Janet, you humble me with your caring responce.  As down as I get sometimes, rest assured I know who and where my friends are and I never lose hope... even when I'm doubting myself...  TY

AVANTI, you understand me like few do, your words touch me deeply.  You cayy that light too you know?

danni, tahnk you sincerely for the message of hope there.  Indeed, without hope, we may as well be dead already.

serenity - didn't mean to put you to sleep...LOL  Seriously, thanks for the hug dear, I needed it..

James, I feel the luck turning already. Thank you, my friend.

Munda, (((HUGS)))  I don't think we do that enough, do we!!!

Isis, well thank you for turning me all read...LOL  Thank you more for being such a wonderful friend...

ZuMBLe, you got this on right on the money.  It's the emotion that is not rationale to others that seems to cause the pain..alienates if you will.  But no, never in a million years would I change it...

Virgo, Hello there, I don't think I've made your aquaintence formally yet.  I will say I see your points on my son,(the light of my life), and talent - but if you truly knew me, you might reconsider on the career and health statements there.  I appreciate all the support just the same.  Thank you very much.

Jesse Jaymz, You stick to your guns too, my friend.  I hope things work out for you as well.  Indeed, I will write so long as I live and so long as write, Passions will be my home.

Thank you all for the kind replies.

Michael
