DARKNESS Darkness is a river, It carries me away. Lost in isolation, I watch my soul slowly decay. Teased by a subtle numbness, My brain through silence screams Across the unconscious border Of reality and dreams. Stars in twilight twinkle Across the witless skies. The hands of heaven sprinkle Seeds of hope before blind eyes. Till the sun, in relished power, Hides all in the hell of day, And glory rises in the shadows Of illusion and disarray. Ambiguity corrupts the masses, Subdues our every thought. Lifeless veins are empty In corpses that dare not rot. Driven on by fear, by hopelessness, And sheltered by the past, We grip life through dead memories, Forcing the love to last. Till sorrow overcomes us In clouds of obscurity, Till tomorrow has vanished With innocence and purity, Vanity's proclamation Comes like the clarion of Hate, All that's left is death, And still you have to wait. Emptiness, an aching chasm, Unadorned to Time, The pining of the spirit To an unrecognized chime, The decrepit embrace of Destiny, Passion, an uncried tear; A droplet of water, a river run still, The darkness that holds me here. ------------------ Michael Anderson I could not love except where Death Was mingling his with Beauty's breath - Or Hymen, Time, and Destiny Were stalking between her and me. No, DE, he was looking into the depths of MY self! Wow, Michael, you have captured this perfectly. ------------------ *Elizabeth* "Dwelt a maid belov'd and cherish'd by high and low, But with autumn leaf she perish'd, long time ago..." "Something sweet, something sort of grandish, sweeps my soul when thou art near..." |

I say it again Michael. You are the Dark Forum...great great piece...Me three years ago. Daniel The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, not the kindly smile, not the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship." --Ralph Waldo Emerson |

I loved it! I loved it! It was dark, yes, but oh, I can't explain it "darkness is a river," "hands of heaven" I just loved this! Maybe I'm the only one who saw the hope in the words "glory rising in the shadows" or "we grip life through dead memories" at least we are alive!! "Passion, an uncried tear" yes, yes it is, it is that, uncried because passion is almost always held in. Michael, this is a masterpiece of poetry Kathleen |

Daniel, thanks for resurfacing this one. This one is a personal favorite of mine. Truly my soul on paper I think. Irish Rose, that you find hope in here makes me smile... It's there, if not readily evident to the naked eye. Michael |

Well hell I'm late for this party. This is great, I enjoy the second stanza. Stars in twilight twinkle Across the witless skies. The hands of heaven sprinkle Seeds of hope before blind eyes. Till the sun, in relished power, Hides all in the hell of day, And glory rises in the shadows Of illusion and disarray. If ever the night is good this is it. Joel. thanks Michael I howl a mornful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel. |
