ELEGY 5/8/89 O spirit above understand My eyes look upon These, my mortal hands What hath they wrought? Ages from now and, What will they have bought? I stop and backup a pace To turn around so I can stare into a face Wondering back at me, As life takes hold, Winding down to the sea Like a river running dry Waiting with thirst, Drinking tears from my eyes And my hands are stained Crimson, as I suppress The memory and the pain Is this how it all ends? Indecision is still a choice But destruction sometimes mends So that is the state of mind In which I choose these words To express that which you find If life is but a journey From here to there Where is it taking me? So all I can do Is look back at the years And how it all flew Patiently we are progressing Some may choose to stop While others continue digressing Their restless hearts beat The unattractive truth Our dreams take a backseat To the nameless vision That seems to divide us With such cold precision You can either be this, Or you can be that, Whatever to make the list Not to be cast out For wanting to be yourself, To stand up and shout This is who you really are Underneath all the layers Of society there’s something more; Inside, some kind of reaction Building up, until, You take some kind of action They say it’s elemental biology But I’ve learned, In the end, there’s only humanity; Which breeds it’s own chemistry A science discovered too late A science known as you and me This is only an observation From my personal point of view In a state of extreme frustration, Forgive me for what I do |
