To wish upon a star
For wishes to come true,
If 'twas only hope to hold me through,
Would be as simple as a wish;
Alas, sad, cascaded eyes
Look up to the skies,
For not a star I see
Nor clouds to sit upon,
Wondering the happiness they achieve,
But sinful and guilty do I stare
At God's almighty place
If only to see the shimmering gates;
For I do not deserve a glance
Or forgiveness for my wicked soul,
But through the staining tears
I pray, of all my heart, for Him to near;
Beside me at my lowest hour--
I let Him enter my soul
With no remorse;
Promise and Truth from unspoken lips
Will guide me up to Heaven.
