Shattered Friendship
By: Amy M. Kennedy

I thought that you were my friend, I thought that you cared...
But, now I see I was wrong...I am left alone and feeling scared...
Empty lies that you told me, and I believed they were true...
But now the picture is so much clearer, now I see the real you...
You tore down my walls, all the while pretending to be my friend...
A true friend wouldn't have done this, they'd be there till the end...
Now you want to blame me, say I am the one at fault...
I did what I had to, all of this madness must come to a hault...
So if walking away is my only way out...
Then so be it, I leave without a doubt...
For you aren't my true friend, someone who just pretended to be there
You are too wrapped up in your own life to really even care...
Blaming everyone else, for you don't think you are wrong...
I am so sick of this station, so tired of this song...
I gave you my friendship, trusted you with all that I had...
Now I sit here crying, feeling so sad...
Doubts creep in, making me wonder if I was the one to blame...
However it wasn't I who was the one lieng, playing a game...
Inside I feel hollow, where once there was great caring for you...
This is your doing, you laughed in my face and made me feel like a fool...
It wont happen again, for I am done, finished, through...
Though try as I may, I still miss you...
But our friendship was just an illusion, built on broken promies and lies...
The time has come on for me to move on and fly...

i know this sort of pain and betrayal all too well. where once i had many "friends", i am now left with none. unfortunately, i do not trust friendship anymore. too many trials and errors. and maybe even more unfortunate, it doesn't bother me that much. anyway, great piece. obviously, i definately could connect with it.

Amy, I've always said trust is a four letter word...this proves it.  Fly on - 'tis all one can do at that point.  There's a brighter tomorrow awaiting.

Amy,

Another expressive piece of work !.

'Tis true friends you can rely on come few and far between. I've always found the best friendships are the ones that take a long time to grow. Trust is valuable thing not to be wasted on the unworthy.

Keep them commin'

even "sunshine" has dark days...
this is a declaration of strength...

For you aren't my true friend, someone who just pretended to be there
You are too wrapped up in your own life to really even care...
Blaming everyone else, for you don't think you are wrong...
I am so sick of this station, so tired of this song..."

I love this verse...change the station, I dont like that OLD song..great analogy...great poem...great having you here!!jm

You're going to hear my voice in the morning calling your name
And know my love and my desperation were one and the same...
Baby it's alright...
Take this pain and all this sadness
It's alright
Take this rain
You're going to be free...

great poem amy.  ive been there as well.  friends can bring us laughter, love, and happiness, but they can inturn bring us pain, sorrow, and tears, because we let them be so close to us.  im extremely lucky in that i found one true friend in my life thus far.  one that i know will never do any of those terrible things some of my past friends have done.  i am blessed, and i hope you will be blessed with that too.  thank you for sharing that.

aimee   im an amy/aimee too!!

~Thanks guys for all of your comments and encouragement! I don't normally write dark poetry, but this one "friend" in particular betrayed me in such a way, that it actually inspired me to write about it. Sounds, kinda strange I know.

Janet, yes even "sunshine" has hours of darknesss...glad you liked the poem

Michael...Thanks for the kind words, and yes there's always tomorrow...you remember that as well my friend.

Devin...you have a cool name! LOL. Thanks for responding to this.

Paul...thank you, and I agree with you. Trust takes a long time to build..but even then (such as in this case) someone can still hurt you, and then it hurts ten times more.

Danni...sweetie thanks for the response, but please don't give up okay. Even though some friends do hurt us very deeply, I also know that some friends are forever friends...and make our lives so special.

thank you all!

Aimster - Great Poem!!!!!  I sure know where you are right now....Funny how you trust so much and truly care only to find it was all for naught...But there are real, true friends out there, and they are the ones to hold on to...You'll know who they are, they don't hurt you.  Thanks for sharing this, it sure helped me.

~BSC

I am honored by your kind words. Thank you! I am glad that this poem made sense to you AND that it touched you. However I am not glad that you can relate. This kinda pain, I would wish on noone. Thanks again though for responding.

I have a "friend" that fits this perfectly, he was a guy who had his own agenda for our friendship that was 180 degrees from where I was and he never bothered to be honest with me about any of it so when I was honest with him about feelings I had for someone else (very strong love feelings) that was the end of our friendship because he couldn't handle it.  The feelings I had about all of it are way more intense then your poem!
