They lived and loved for years,
The young maiden and her squire,
They loved through trials and tears,
They were never stuck in the mire.

They loved in secret and in shame,
They were not permitted to marry,
She was deemed to good for him,
All he seemed to do was tarry.

They met in secret on the battlements,
No matter what the season,
Stealing moments when they could,
Their love and thoughts knew no reason.

But this night she had bad news to share with her love,
The thunder roared the lightning struck,
The wind shrieked up above,
Their love it seemed was out of luck.

She was to leave the next day,
To the far off castle of Iverness,
To marry her unknown betrothed,
A fate of lonliness.

She seemed so very different this night,
As she was liashed with wind and rain
Her love knew right away and with fright,
She had poisoned herself in vain.

He held her tightly as her life slipped away,
He said without her he couldn't go on,
She fought him weakly only wanting to say,
That he could and would go on.

He lifted her oh so gently and held her close to his heart,
He kissed her pale lips and started wlaking towards the edge of the tower,
She knew then what he intended to do,
And didn't hesitate or cower.

He stood with her on the edge of the battlement,
And kissed her one last time,
A kiss that never broke,
As he stepped off the edge, their love be heaven sent.

And now they have passed over,
Abounding with happy ever after,
Their love was never understood,
But was it all in vain?

At night the moon became a face,
I met the spirit of life,
the spirit of love and music.  And I am better for it.

This is a beautiful rendition of tragic love.  At least in death they would be together.

This was so descriptive.  I could see them on the battlements with the wind and the rain.

Some times tragic love is the most romantic.

Isis...another work of art...this one is so great..so full of imagination and imagery.
So "Romeo and Juliet"... so perfect!!
take care, janet marie

When you look in the mirror...
Wish you were somebody else
Just a perfect reflection
You and no one else...
Minutes run into hours
Hours run into days
You're still waiting for someone
Who never ever came...
Go and run through the hallways
Find your way to the door
You will end up like always
Back where you were before...
Then you look in the mirror
Wish you were somebody else
But it's still your reflection
You and no one else...

Thanks Janet Marie, I find when writing it is easier to write of tragic love than perfect love.  One of my little peculiarities.
Glad you liked it

Isis,
I don't think ANY love is ever all in vain.  Love is such a precious gift and granted to so few is true love, even from the depths of bitter heartbreak I can still proclaim this.  Beautiful and sad poem, even still.

Thanks Michael

May the world hug you today,
With it's warmth and love.
I pray it whispers a joyful tune in your heart,
That tell you there is a friend sitting in another corner of the world,
Wishing you well and
wishing you love......

If a love such as that is in vain, then all love is curseed. Beautiful, heartbreaking story.
