Another long, rambling title. I'm sorry if they rankle somewhat, but I love them! They're too much fun! -wen ==================================================== It's been a long day. I get home, drop my stuff, And grab the wall as I start to sway Because I am SO hungry! (I haven't eaten since lunch.) I stagger to the kitchen to see What there might be to eat, And, as usual, nothing greets me. Why didn't I stop at the store, again? (Oh, yeah. I was tired.) I've got some cereal, probably stale, Some rice.. don't like rice. Why did I buy that? Well, It was probably when I was on that diet. (Which didn't work, by the way.) I flip on the radio, just for noise, Opening and closing empty cabinets. Glancing out the window as the boys Next door are playing football in the yard. (THEY'VE probably already eaten...) Suddenly, my ears perk up at a voice "Are you hungry? Come to Seafood Poems! It's always the right choice." I grab my coat and keys, heading for the door. (Hey, at least someone else will do the dishes.) I pull into the practically empty lot, My stomach making growling noises at me, Thinking is this place good? Probably not. After all, there's nobody here. (The sure sign of a bad restaurant.) But as I enter, there are tons of people there! People stuffed in tighter than sardines. They find me a place, though, somehow, somewhere. A nice table for one, in my own cozy corner. (I swear, they pulled it out of thin air.) I'm handed an unremarkable menu, With only two entrees... shrimp and salmon. I wonder how they're so successful with just two. I mean, all these people came for something. (And it certainly wasn't solitude.) I hear a man ordering, his voice like dry leaves. "I'd like to order the salmon, with the Caesar salad, And a side of poetry, please." A side of POETRY? What the heck is that? (I was beginning to think this was some crazy dream.) Amazingly, minutes later, they bring his food. A beautiful, pink salmon, crisp salad, and... My lord, but whatever that is looks GOOD! Some kind of dark, syrupy soup, I think. (It smells absolutely delicious!) I watch as he takes his first bite. Well, spoonful. He blows on it gently first, Then, his face takes on a look of pure delight. Complete relaxation, peace, satisfaction. (He doesn't pay any attention to that lovely salmon.) When the waitress comes to me, my voice like dry leaves, I say, "I'd like to order the salmon, with the Caesar salad, And a side of poetry, please." And, let me tell you, I loved every bite! (Truly, I've eaten nothing else since.) ==================================================== [This message has been edited by Wendy Flora (edited 01-23-2000).] |

Yah Wenny! I love it! It's long, but keeps me engaged (some long poetry can tend to lose me). I loved the bits in parentheses at the ends of each stanza. All in all, tasty as I'm sure poetry's meant to be! Never regret |

this poem is SO creative and imaginative... It was so fun to read and your words were so descriptive, I could smell the salmon and hear the sounds of the restaurant. I wouldnt change a thing. This style of writing is very unique...and yes, the title was great fun too. Janet Marie |

Nice imagery...but can you order it with fries instead of a caesar salad? |

Silly gofor42... I guess you could. I mean, they only had 2 entrees, but they must have had more side dishes. -wen |

Thank you Joy! I had an idea to just post a long, rambling title and let people play with it - make them stretch their brain matter somewhat - but I don't know what kind of response that would get. I may still do it and see what happens... -wen "Well she wants to live her life, then she thinks about her life... Excellent! I find that poetry goes well with either a red or a white wine. . . Wonderful. . . --------------------------------------------- That which gives light must endure burning --Victor Frankl |
