THE MIST Although I hold my lantern high, I can't see through this mist. I turn each corner with a sigh, Ever clenching tight fist. I wander Darkness, day and night, There is no sun for me. Pain my passion, pleasure my plight, Death, my reality. My name is written in the Book, But blood still stains the floor. And all stop by to have a look, Though none come back for more. The wind whispers a hallowed tune, Lo, who recalls the shame? Descend upon the vanquished rune, Place upon me all blame. I scream in pitches none would hear, I flail but none would see. I watch silent hope disappear As they take the body. As to the night the bright lights fade, While Darkness doth persist. I lay my lantern to the glade, And breath deeply, the mist. Michael < !signature--> It's the little things you take for granted, That'll mean the most to you when they're gone. [This message has been edited by Michael (edited 01-07-2000).] |

Awesome Michael. I'm feeling so many things, thinking so many things right now because of your poem. Could this be a poem of someone dying and trying to hold on, Not wanting to give up on the natural life? You can get so much just from this one poem. You truly write from the depths of your soul! |

Wow, Shirleeah, I am amazed you picked that up, although this is more about one who has already died, but is clinging to the physical realm unacknowledged. Usually my writing is so obcure not many have a clue what I am speaking of but you nailed this one right off. Indeed, I was gonna title this poem "The Ghost" originally but figured I would see what came of it titled this way. Well, you certainly brightened my mood this morning, TY. Exceptional as always Micheal. I think going with this title was a good choice too. It adds to the mystery and dark beauty of it. |

The density of this poem alone was profound. 'Tis a well done work. Now and forever, my heart hears ~one voice~. I loved the line "Pain my passion, pleasure my plight" Michael. I think pain can be very passionate, especially with writing!! Great words in this one as usual from you Michael. |

Fascinating piece - glad I caught it - - something about the way you write, and the way the wheels inside your head turn, is oddly enough what attracts me to you, and turns me on. This piece pulled at me seductively....the mysterious tone is chilling, especially in the last stanza.....Exquisite, yeah I know, leave it to me to get "turned on" with something like this....LOL. Call me sick...I don't care. It's your mind that does it to me babe... ** I'm reaching for the brightest star I've ever seen - knock my ladder out from under me, and you'll wish you hadn't !! -pFF ** Here's to 2000! |

Michael, I LOVED this! I definitely got what Shirleeah got when reading this. I imagined someone dead who wanted back his life but couldn't. I really could see it all in my head like I was there, almost as if I were the one dead. Amazing! Just amazing work here, once again. Your abstract poetry makes it what it is. Unique! And although a lot of the time when I read your work, I don't always understand I always know where it is coming from, deep inside your soul! Where poetry often sits waiting to be let out onto paper in words. JOY |

As always your work is wonderous Michael *sigh* Let your heart guide you. It whispers, so listen closely. ~Isis~ (Sovereign of the Spirit) |

I kind of thought it was about a spirit clinging to earth too when I read this. Deeply mysterious, beautiful, with a tinge of sadness. Exellent work! *Krista Knutson* ~*Like a lion, without fear of the howling pack, Like a gust of wind, ne'er trapped in a snare, Like a lotus blossom, ne'er sprinkled by water, Let me, like a unicorn, in solitude roam.*~ Hymn Of Buddha |

Absolutely beautiful Michael...this poem defies the natural depths of the soul and gets lost in a world very few people dare enter. I'm so very glad you did. "They can take away my belongings. They can beat me. They can torchure me and they can kill me. Then they will have my dead body. But they will not have my obedience." -Gandhi ~*Angel of Darkness*~ |

Well I'll be...the Micheal of PfF&Michael...Very nice work...I am as always addicted to the Avant-Garde Edict...I give strong kudos to this masterful abstract adaption. Also nice to meet you within your own genre. Good Luck you guys...hope it all comes off real slow... TA~haze |

Michael I really enjoyed reading this poem because I could actually understand it...and I usually have a hard time understanding dark poetry...I was enjoying my view thru the mist. James |

i know my one response to this exquisite poem wont make much difference, but i have to say that this is (as are many of your poems that i've read) one of the finest works of "modern" poetry i've read thus far... my english professors need to collect the works of poets like you for us to read instead of the oversexed, underexposed ones we have now... honestly a magnificent read Michael... sincerely, **jerome the boy whose brain got left out in the rain and nobody bothered to dry it off when they put it back in |
