This is a poem from a collection that I wrote called "The Lantern Bearers". I wrote it when I was 19. . . I hope that you enjoy it. . . btw, thanks to Nan for her help with my photo. . . They asked me about you today. I said, "Who?" Nothing's changed. I spent New Year's the same way I did last year. Bored and alone. But perhaps wiser. (Maybe something did change.) I could say I wish you love, But, if it's not mine, What good is it? Why am I writing this? You're out of my life, out of my love, So why do I keep your memory alive? Perhaps I'm a fool. Perhaps I still love you. (Love?) (You?) Happy New Year. That which gives light must endure burning --Victor Frankl |

I finally get to see the face behind the mask!! I'm glad to see you Sven. This was sad, but New Years I use as a time to remember those gone (in whatever way - broken up, death, divorce etc). Like Auld Lang says New Years is the time for remembering old friends. And the new I must add! Reach inside your heart, that is the greatest gift you can bestow. Merry Christmas.. ~Isis~ (Daughter of Mystery) |

Thank you Isis, thought I'd just surprise everyone. . . and after you posted your picture, I just couldn't hide any longer. . . New Year's is a little tough for me. . . always has been. . . the memories just seem to flood back too fast. . . but now, I have some new memories. . . of some new friends. . . thank you all. . . Sven, I can also relate to the feelings of loss generated by thoughts of those who can no longer be with us at the turn of the year, either by accident or purpose. There are, as well, happy memories of current and new friends, but sometimes, even those lack the balm to soothe the restless spirits of friends dead, of loves lost. I don't know why we keep th memory alive, I think perhaps we can love the memory of what was, without actually still loving the person within the memory. Michael |
