WORDS

They're only words upon the screen,
But what power they hold.
Give sunken eyes a darling sheen,
Or turn the room ice cold.

Sometimes they're kind, glowing and warm,
Speak of the gifts we share.
A beacon of love in life's storm,
That guides me through with care.

Sometimes they come, a twisting knife,
That leaves the soul to bleed.
When you realize your whole life
Is subject to her need.

The vision branded on the brain,
Her with another man.
Every squeeze a shard of pain,
That leaves love overran.

Intoxicating thoughts for you,
Well, have a drink one me?
A toast, "To thine own self be true",
For all the world to see.

They are but words, this much I know,
More so than I want to.
Just tell me once, before you go,
Which ones, again, are true?

Indeed they are but words. Words however have the power to shape minds and ideals. It should be acknowledged that a razor tongue cuts both ways, as does a seductive one.

I must agree with the feeling behind this piece if not the sentiment. Well done my friend.

You spoke alot of truth here sir....They are merely words....I guess we really don't have much to go on except faith in eachother, huh? Words can be pretty empty at times, I hope you don't feel your life is subject to my need....in fact, I hope much of this doesn't pertain to me and you. There are some pretty bitter realities listed here. Powerful poem indeed!

Indeed, words can do so much, start wars, end lives, relationships etc. This was wonderful Michael

Michael...the last staza made me realize that just because someone says how they feel, doesnt mean that it's their true emotions or feelings...which is true...ive been there...and i never want to return
