Sister, dear sister,

walking the shoreline
our silly faces beam
at the smiling moon,

traipsing on starshine
holding dear,
cottoncandy castles
daddy's budget bought,

sister, dear sister,

you grew beside me;

we shared the womb
of Saint Rose,

and sang the bedtime tune
on the arrival of the nightingale,

and drank
from the same seas
of celebration and fears,

with the ocean beside us,
we meld into waves that
wither into fragments of foam
and rise again into champagne towers,

we grow close;

then suspend again,

round and round
the same moon appears
then leaves us in shadow
as her face turns again,

fingertips press

palm to palm

hold on to my touch,
if only by sheer faith
for the duration,

sister, dear sister

we pick and choose
along the way

still the candy castles
remain sweet
as they sustain their taste
throughout these years
