Me lad, I find it passin' 'ard- To pass yon bonnie bleez... 'Tis autumn an' there's teeth, I say- In yon fair freshnin' breeze. Money? Nay, 'tis broke I be- Yet for a mug o' ale... I'd yarn o' places tha' I've seen, An' spin a Traveler's Tale. Ye ken the taiga? Or the steppes? A bitter place indeed, An' many the bold laddie-bye, Upon the snows did bleed. An' Rome? I were a legionairre- 'Twas in the Sixth, and Tenth... Our eagles gleamed above the fight, To gi' our sword arms strength. Crusades? Nay, lad...'twas rape and spoil- An' nay for things divine... An' in no such a bloody farce... Plied I this blade o' mine! A soldier, aye! And sailor, too! I've seen me share o' gore... A left a bit o' mine as well, On many furin shore. 'Tis late, an' wou' it be too much, To sleep in yonder nook? P'raps ye'd 'ave a crust o' bread- An' even 'ave a book? Bless ye friend, yer far too kind- But on life's bonnie scale- I think ye'll find it's tit for tat- Board, for a Traveler's Tale. |
