I believe, as Brautigan did That every woman Should have a poem written for her Be it an erotic Haiku Or a schoolyard ditty Of roses red and blue violets A woman should have words to wear High on her thigh like a garter Or cape-like, across her shoulders All women should be honored so Whether a pastoral sonnet Or an ode to the lights in her eyes A man needs to craft for a woman A jeweled verse that she could cherish And keep, for her own So, I recall the women in my own life The poems that I’ve written for them And how most have wandered away To other futures, other lovers Long before I discovered this penchant to write And hope that the effort However belated Still counts for something But, what of the girl Who decades ago Roamed the streets with her father From bar to bar Where he peddled her freshness Until she bore him a daughter Who's words warm her shoulders And does she wear a verse of jewels Who wrote for this girl Her poem? |

Yes, every woman should have a poem. And it is great to see another Richard Brautigan fan here! |

I agree Ed. I think the men of pip should pick a female pipster and go to work! LOL.. Wonderfully written. "cast me gently into the morning, for the night has been unkind" |

"Who's words warm her shoulders And does she wear a verse of jewels Who wrote for this girl Her poem?" The poem is always written in the heart, reflecting out and can only be viewed and captured by another. If it is never captured, it does not die, it escapes to be as a wild elemental. Beautiful work, Sir poet. Thank you for sharing it. |
