It's times like these
when I miss the bad old days,
the purple haze,
music I remembered
having heard it only once,
easy money for the making,
simple freedoms for the taking,
solutions,
though maybe good or evil,
that always seemed in focus
and in reach;
it was a world of just
judgmental
righteous
soft soliloquies;
I am not defending messes I helped make,
but then I don't have the time,
or inclination,
to offer up a simple reconstruction
of a scripted recollection
some campaign staffer had to fake
for all the world to see,
like the stories of the shining faces
whining nightly now
on news TV.

I won't ask you where those days went
because I still recall how mine were spent,
but I do believe they were heaven sent,
and I wonder sometimes
if that's where they've returned.

If there's a "heaven" that's where they must be but have you ever thought that a mind could be called by another name like "heaven", for instance? I do so enjoy reading your thoughts, icebox.
