Old houses have the best sounds. They creak and groan. They whistle and complain. They make no concessions for those inhabitants Who live therein. --If they want to make noise-so be it. New houses stifle. New houses try to cover noises up. They are sterile and acquiescing. New houses don't intrude. They don't bring attention to themselves. One would think they didn't need attention. Old houses echo and amplify the life in them. Old houses have creaks in special places. Old houses have frequent predictable ailments. Old houses are like family. --------------------------------- I believe the most important component of a poem is rhythm. Rhythm is the heartbeat of a poem. It is what makes poetry poetry. |

You know, I believe you are right. Old houses have a sort of attitude. Although my house is only 5 years old (surly still considered a mear child) and it makes quite a few noises from time to time also. Oh well. OVer all I liked the poem. |

You are right. Old houses are heavy with history of lives lived and so they are actually ALIVE too. Beautiful thoughts. Love, Margherita |
