There’s A Hole In The World there’s a hole in the world a hole things are falling through biplanes and plaques, girls on bikes cigarettes and swing sets in parks whole roads slicking down it like overcooked spaghetti a hole there’s a hole in the world and oh grandstands I guess BB’s and babies and movie cameos going down, saw horses all a’kilter poodles with frizzy pink hair they all dive like grebes and don’t come up through the hole in the world the hole that eats bullfighters and magazines, torpedoes and all I saw a drill press and a cultured lady looking good all the way down to no gurgle because there’s a hole a hole and it feels like the whole world |

There's also a song by this title... I remember them playing it when John Ritter died... now I'll have that tune in my head all day... A good poem, Sir. |

Some days it just feels that way Ed. Well done. To have lived the dream of a love so true... |

Hi RL Must be related to the sock eater, the pen eater and things that just disappear in that little ole hole in the world. Bon-Bon |

What's in the hole? A never ending drop? Or does everything that falls in it, fall ontop of everything else? China? Hm? lol. Honestly, this gave me one of the best mental pictures I've ever seen. It also makes me think about this character in a movie I once saw that said something to the extent of, "So, you're cursed. So what? So's the whole damn world". |

Well I guess that explains why I always seem to be falling... I would rather my words fall upon deaf ears than a closed mind... |

Your incredibly vivid images sucked me in... a fall I took most willingly. *S* I love the way you juxtapose the trivial and transcendent... all subject to the same slide... all equally helpless to escape. Magnificent writing, my friend!!! |

Ed Sometimes it feels just like that to me too. Wonderful use of imagery to convey a feeling...poignant and desolate. |

Love the imagination of this. I can see them slipping. Much enjoyed. Susan The whole of the Universe resides within each individual heart. |

Amazing writing, Ratleader. I remember reading this before-it left an impression then, and, again, a dent. I'm glad it came up again because I wanted to respond to it. The imagery you chose to create a hole was perfect, the things dearest such as swingsets and those little kiddies that would be on them. Sadelite |

This carries like a wind tunnel with no way out. Hard not to get caught up by the intense force. Good stuff, Ed~ |

so much truth in these words and yes Sunshine is correct, there is a song titled as this and the Eagles do it. It is one of my favorite songs and is also full of truth. Very very well done sir. |

Gosh, it sure as dickens feels that way at times! Whirling, swirling images of people and things ~ and our values and virtures! ~ being sucked into a deep and dark vortex! This reminds me of something funny that happened to me when I was a teenager. My Dad read to our family, a Ripley's Believe It Or Not article, that a preacher had been singing "When the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there" as he walked down the middle of a road. Suddenly, the earth trembled, the road gaped open and he disappeared into the cravass. Well, the next day, as soon as we sat down in church, the preacher announces that our first hymn was to be, "When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder". As he started singing, our pew shook as my whole family broke into gales of hysterical laughter. ~ Everyone, except for my Mom who was absolutely mortified as she had not heard the article that my Dad had read to the rest of us! Sorry that I got off on a wild tangent. Your fascinating poem reminded me of that incident! ~ Take care in where you step! lol Linda |
