You asked me why,
not how,
I write poetry.
I don't think my motivations matter,
or would even help you understand
the separate river flowing through my soul;
it is hard sometimes for me to walk softly,
and I don't mean to shatter any useful illusions,
but I don't seek ovations
and I can just barely handle praise,
even then
only at a distance,
please don't misunderstand
I am not constructing resistance,
I savor your thoughts
the raw and pure energy,
the vulnerability,
the visions
tastes and scents,
the innocence that never will exist
within the walls of my redoubt,
but none of this really
is what this poorly structured poem is all about;
I am writing to thank you
for enfolding me,
though all too briefly,
inside the shelter of your soul,
and as recompense
try to make sense
of what and why it is
that I also try to do
in poems
without needing to give warning.

I write poems
for the sad simple truth
that the voices inside me are maddening;
I have found no other key
to reality's chains
when my soul weeps awake in the morning.

done it for a better poet.

Thank you for your comment.  There is little I can say beyond that, but it is appreciated.

The inner voices urge you to write and I am grateful you surrender always, and so very beautifully.
I agree it's not easy to handle praise and still ....it means you have shared your gift and helped someone else to understand, to feel, to ponder, to rejoice ...
Thank you.
Love, Margherita

Oh ... yes, I am understanding this so much~

And ... our dear Martie will continue to 'enfold' such a soul that shows in this penning~

She's like that ... yeah, she is~

She, and others of us, know the voices~

And I think you are not alone in that need to release truth.  That you are able to canal your truth into beautiful verse and then open the flood gate allowing your words to flow out into this blue ocean is a gift and an offering.

Little you can say beyond that? There IS nothing left to say after that, it encompasses(at least for me) everything that leads me to write. Thanks for expressing it.

Your poetry comes from great depths, and lets us see the truth that many can't find or reveal.  I'm so glad you do write, for without your poetry, I would never have known the dear man that you are.
