Tonight, I learned that a colony of parrots Has taken refuge in Brooklyn After having escaped, forty years ago When their crate was broken on the dock I learned something else tonight as well Or rather Nearly did But, that particular bit of new knowledge Didn’t quite “take” Though I can still taste it The flavor of it escapes me It was almost as if the fabric of it Caught for a moment On the hooks of my consciousness Only to be blown fluttering away Before the gust of some distraction Leaving behind, but a scant few threads As proof that I had learned it at all However briefly Though, I’ve become accustomed To finding things missing I find the list of things no longer remembered Growing out of proportion To the list of things I no longer have What gate was left ajar? To allow names and notions free to wander off And dates that I have deemed important Lose themselves into the pages of the calendar The museum has been left open The curator has taken a sabbatical And I’ve lost a bit of knowledge Before I had a chance to categorize it Label it or even find a place to store it I can only hope that “it” Along with other bits of lost learning Have been used to line nests High atop lampposts and ledges Giving some small comfort To small green Brooklynites "In looking Northward, I see a light" [This message has been edited by wranx (04-23-2004 07:56 AM).] |

"Though I can still taste it The flavor of it escapes me It was almost as if the fabric of it Caught for a moment On the hooks of my consciousness Only to be blown fluttering away Before the gust of some distraction Leaving behind, but a scant few threads As proof that I had learned it at all However briefly Though, I’ve become accustomed To finding things missing" ...I don't know exactly what to say to this. It began with something that would leave an impression, a scattered bit of color. I enjoyed this and I'm saving it. Perhaps so I can study it, just to further understand... Thank you. |

ummm...more than nice... quote: The subtleness that you apply to it and all things that belong to the realm of intangible are found in this piece, Wranx. All I can do is say, thanks... ![]() |

As always, excellent work Wranx. We've got 5 parrots so this one is a special write. |

Wranx~ I found a piece of myself in this penning~ 'What gate was left ajar? To allow names and notions free to wander off And dates that I have deemed important Lose themselves into the pages of the calendar' Yes ... having searched many calendar pages ... I know this on a personal level~ *Huglets* ![]() ~*Marge*~ ~*When the heart grieves over what it has lost, |

"I find the list of things no longer remembered Growing out of proportion To the list of things I no longer have" ~ Not only the entire poem, but especially this, I can relate to. |

this reminds me of a dream i had back in the summer of 2000 , its a long story but i will sum it all up for you . It was me driving an old style car maybe a cadi with the folding top back , i was driving out to washington state area way up in the hills , mountains too , but i was there driving through the memory banks of the world , there were large tall arches but thick and almost tubular but there were rows of them , and in then there was the information stored there, every event and every thing imagined , they were the memory banks ...i better put a lid on this dream it could get me in to deep but , your write reminded me of where does all of these years and little moments go , the names and places , the little things said while we speak to another , time for me to go ,thanks for the revival -wolf ....... |

I like how you tied all of this together. It's a nice thought to have memory shorts go somewhere productive! Very creative write. ~Sadie |

I wave to them as they go: Goodbye, little fact! Goodbye, little thought! Nice to think that somebody, even a bird, might find a use for them...but I know I won't, so I just let 'em flibble away in the updrafts.... Got me going, you did -- nice work Ed! You store those bits in your heart ... and with or without labels there they are ... part of you. Great piece of writing, Ed! Love, Margherita |

Now that I know where all thos missing thoughts go...I'll be more careful, make sure they are suitable for a wee winged's nest. Ed, I always enjoy where you take my mind. |

Oh yes, terribly well said...love the part about losing it before you could categorize and store it...amazingly perceptive! Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

the lock may be broken, but the gate loves the freedom of swinging in the breeze "it's" never lost, just breaks free awhile to dance its way to newer destinations.... loved this write |

Sort of like waking up and only remembering that you had a dream that left you feeling a certain way, yet you can't remember it.... Sort of.. ![]() "cast me gently into the morning, for the night has been unkind" |
