Where Marmots Run – To Know Breathless

It was just a few trees,
And I heard it said,
There would be thickness but for the drought

It was just some clouds
Some would have insisted I use words like mist, or fog

But we were some 9,000 feet and climbing
That the summit would greet us
And for a minute
Feel our weight, knowing
That so many have come before, but
                   Not all

Pike’s Peak.

Home of marmots and sunshine, clouds and renewal.
                     They say
One can see five states on a clear day.
All I noted was that at the end of the line?
It WAS the end of the ties,
No more to go, no down the other side
Of the hill, no one-way
Ticket to tomorrow, unless,
Well, we won’t say that;

But walking around
In the clouds, once more I saw things
In a new way…

Quite close to the top of the world [close, but,
Like horseshoes…]

The dizziness that comes
In clouds at 14,110 feet
[Adding another five foot seven,
Just because…]

Is the dizziness of mortality.

I will take your breath away
I will inspire, on a clear day
I will reflect your life in clouds,
And carry your essence in raindrops
                               To feed the ground, below.
I will be, your crystal ball.

I couldn’t breathe,
But didn’t want to leave,
Though took the moment to believe,
That I stood by God’s hand,
                                        And felt relieved.

Marmots run slow,
       Hugging rock’s ground,
               Feeding on alpine florets
                       Of yellows, lavenders,
                               And columbine flowers.

I should have stayed
For a few more heady moments.

As always, you take my breath away.

If Mother nature needs a laureate, you should apply.  You are at your very best with natural beauty..and also with emotions and support and ...I guess you don't write poems about cars.  Ken

thank you for reminding me how breathless feels ... lovely you...

There's a place I like to hide-open your mind to me-Visualise your dream- Record it in the present tense, I am smiling next to you, in silent lucidity

Where memories run...this takes me back... what a way to start my day! I'm remembering the sound of aspen trees, the look of them...so sunny yellow in the fall, green as frail as patients in the early spring....I want to be there.

And this. --

All I noted was that at the end of the line?
It WAS the end of the ties,
No more to go, no down the other side
Of the hill, no one-way
Ticket to tomorrow, unless,
Well, we won’t say that;

Yes, I've climbed hills like that....climbing a couple now, and needed an image like this to bolster me....

I am amazed at how many of us took a few days to visit the mountains recently...and I'm ready to go again.  Thank you all for coming with me!  It's been a real party!
