Ye gift me with thine essence of healing myrrh,
Ye warm me with thine presence of soothing wine.
Thy tender loving ways set mine heart astir,
Thy kisses be consuming and oh so fine.
When it comes to love, ye be a connoisseur,
And when ye be afar, mine soul dost pine.
For when we be entwining in love's duet,
Our passions be stirring 'til the moon hast set.

Nightshade ~

I'm pleased that you enjoyed this little poetic stretch of mine! As you know, I usually write a sing-songy, rhyming style but once in a while I do enjoy trying something new!

OTTAVA RIMA, a stanza of eight iambic lines, containing three rhymes, invariably arranged as follows:a b a b a b c c. It is an Italian invention, and we find the earliest specimens of its use in the poetry of the fourteenth century.

Now don't get all excited, I looked Ottava Rima up.  Very unique poem, sharing a diversity of emotion...lovely read...thank you for writing and sharing.

Lee ~

Why thank you for looking that up! It saved me from writing an explanation! lol There had been no mention of iambic where I got my information. It just mentioned that the lines could be of 10 or 11 syllables.

abababcc ~ a one octive poem
abababcc dededeff ~ a two octive poem
abababcc dededeff ghghghii ~ a three octive poem
and so on, and so one...

Thank you for your thoughtfulness!

~ Enjoy your day, Dear One!

I think I'll try my hand at a few more forms! They're so much fun ~ well most of them are! I find writing villanelles a bit tedious! lol

~ May you be loved as you love others!

I can and often am impressed by a poet's format... but first and last with me... it's the words, the heart. *S*

This succeeds on all levels, my friend...

And now that I've been good.... *G*

Yowser!!! Lead me to it!!!! LOL
