Yesterday’s news swirled and
settled into the maw of a dry
gutter awaiting tomorrow’s rain.
If only the clouds would darken
the sun’s heat pressing relentlessly
upon the gum stained walk. Tentacles
reaching for an unsuspecting heel.

Slowly the beads form the arched brow
awaiting the slow and precarious flow
into space, landing silently amongst the
pockmarked cement, now worn from
ages of shuffles and steps. Ghosts of
past travels, echoing the tunnel’s hall
as travelers march in silent vigil,
wanting but one thing....a shadow’s
cloak to quell the perspiring tides.

If only the setting sun would stand
behind the sentinel shells standing
ever close to a cloudless sky....If
only...
