The Whipping Post By: Kevin V. Reese December 18th, 2001 So many dreams fell away that dreadful eve of darkened day. When truth of life found its host, and bound his body to the whipping post. Time squares behind the dog marching through the mired bog. Break the back of collared blue. Carry the weight of gilded few. Swallow hard. Walk in the wind. Never your choice will time rescind. Consequence in sweat and laden brow. Reap your reward with humbled bow. Conformity comes ripping, crowned in thorns. Compassion voided. It seldom mourns. Time blinded, never to wait. Feeding on scraps seals your fate. Fight fierce tide to conquer its sea. Never exhaust your will to be. Wield the rapier, fall the post. Be no longer its shackled host. Copyright, Kevin V. This is quite striking in its passion and power. Clear the images of hostage to the wheel. Well done. TD |

I agree with TD. The image of a whipping post is most repugnant to me. I shudder. Susan Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you. Joy is a state of mind. |

A good "reap what you sow" poem. Very wise, Kevin. ....jo |

I liked the spine, the courage that speaks here. |
