White fast running water,
foamy, swirling and eddying
into rocks and floating jetsem.
Seagulls and crows wait for snatched morsels.

Lurring white noise sound, tantalising
youths on scorching days of summer.
First hands go in, to feel the white
stream.Flowing liquid excitement.

Toes touch water, barefoot and
bold to go.After a while the
weir lulls you, dares you to
go further, tentatively you move on.

It's easy now, you have your feet
as you step confidently across it's
rocks.Suddenly your feet are gone,
you slide down the fast moving chute.

Whiteness, darkness, blue sky,
dark shroud.The swirling
whirlpool of wrath, twists and
bubbles around you, deafening rush past ears.

Pulling you deeper, ever deeper,
freezing cold water numbs you,
disables you, washes the fight from you.
Succumbing to the power of the river.

Under water your dead body
floats, silently, slowly, coming to
rest under the riverbank.
The willow above you will weep.

The river has another sacrifice,
until the next time it calls
to the unwary youth.
It says ''come touch my waters with your fingers''.

''Death where is thy sting? Love where is thy glory?'' William Shakespeare.

That's a pretty unruly river.  Is it the same one Deliverance was filmed on? LOL.  Your imagery was cinematic.  I always enjoy reading your posts.  You have the unique ability to facilitate certain feelings and mindsets through the compilation of carefully selected words.  It really is an art that you perform well.

Stephen King.....move over!

Right out of a horror movie, captivating and intriging.....enchanting the reader like a spell, almost like the river itself! Pulling me in its weave of words....

But the real horror, the river DOES exist and the deaths are real....

Brilliant story writing with a poetic twist!
