Erasure Your words are a constipated ramble about pain meds taken in ever-shortening windows, on the uselessness of doctors, on bandages and pus. Two hours later, you call back, apologetic, asking what you said because you can’t remember, because it’s the drugs talking. I feel guilty for wanting to think of something, anything else, for being glad I live five-hundred miles away, for not being in my mother’s place -- her role suddenly transformed into a nursemaid of religious proportions. I look at the family photo taken just last July when you were still healthy and smiling -- to see you vanishing. It leaves me unspeakably sad. Corinne, this is really sad. The truth is, my kids, probably think that of me as I am still recovering from a bad accident four years ago -- off the pain meds for the most part though, even though it would feel better if I took them. So, I guess, I look at this from both sides....and both sides are sad. Hope things get better. ...jo |
