Becky was discharged from the hospital this afternoon after her bone marrow biopsy. The doctors now know she lymphoblastic lymphoma, which often is also in the marrow. If it's found there, he says her intense therapy will last about a year. She has a long road ahead of her….

For my friend – Becky

Branches strain to reach down
To touch the weary traveler here
Sun’s rays fight to shed their light
but the road yields darkness and fear

I see her marching stoically
Chestnut mane cut to stubble
I call out for her to wait for me
Running now, over briars and rubble

Her shadowed eyes search mine
For a hint of cringing distaste
‘No one wants to join me here
they pass by in fearful haste’

‘I am not changed,’ she cried out,
‘since before the demon cancer came
but they are shy of coming near
have they no care? No shame?’

I reached out my hand to her
‘I’m not afraid of this disease
for I know you’re on the right road
to find health and surcease’

One step upon the road was hard
Two steps fatigued her more
But still she pushed along the track
Til we heard the ocean’s roar

The sun was just arising and
in glory's colors on this slope
We rested a moment then journyed on
down this road called ‘hope’
Right now, all I can do is cry my words
onto this page
filled with sadness
filled with rage
but
There will be poetry later to make you smile

I promise.

PdV,
Becky needs your friendship and support. And you do it well. My Nancy Lee has been cancer free for almost 18 years! May she find comfort and strength in your words and friendship. And may you stand strong on her behalf. Peace...

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Poet, please tell our little White Dove I'm still praying for her.  And, thank you for expressing your feelings here so we could know about what she is going through (and you, as well).  Hugs, jo

Oh my, such a gift you give in your friendship and support and such a touching write, it speaks of struggle yet hope.  All the best to your friend, may she be blessed with health again and the strength to find it.

The ending just epitomizes friendship. *S* Thank you for letting her know there's no road she has to walk alone...

I was not amazed at all that the prayer circle in Pipps was answered when loving friends stick together it is powerful!  Hope she is finding today so much better than yesterday.
