Sweet Pea (in loving memory of my dad) I was his sweet pea even then after the slamming door the scream within my pillow the radio’s love song where I took a breath of dying He gave me that in his waiting listening as my mirror broke (oh he felt it was his own...I see that now) My tendrils slide beneath the door trying to find the sun around and about folding and folded still I climb the whim of his shoulder moving toward the light of him ------------------------ Wrapped Around the Thought (for my father) See that curl of hair on forehead under the jaunt of cap, grinning yes and leaning into the sun with a tease of freckles? Oh, he could write a minute if you asked him, could tell you carefully facts of newsprint and time with his face somber and his long fingers wrapped around the thought. Stories were in him, some fashioned with laughter, his small quips sang across the Post on Saturday Evening. I didn’t know then to be proud. Ships were always landing in pairs, he wrote, on the yellow paper that falls apart and drops pieces of time on the hardwood floor. I see how it was l932 by an envelope tucked inside the book called War Aces with a bill requesting three dollars for a doctor’s visit. The address is one that tells me that he lived before I knew him, before I was his sweet pea, he lived this piece of time without me. Oh, he could write a minute if you asked him, could tell you carefully facts of newsprint and time with his face somber and his long fingers wrapped around the thought. -------------- thank you for reading these reposts for my father. |

Honey, it's that second picture that makes my throat choke up...that, and the two wonderful poems that will forever stand in tribute to your father... and it twines around me, just like the sweetpea vine... |

Martie, sometimes it takes so much for us to truly realize the gem we were given at our birth....A mother and a father...You were given a treasure that will lie within your keepsake box....your heart...for all time. |

Martie, I really enjoyed reading these reposts. It struck a real chord in me; I have not been able to deal with the reality of losing my Dad; it happened so soon; we were prepared, we thought, for Mom, but Dad .. At any rate, these were beautiful and made me feel the memories. Thank you so much for reposting these. Pepper |

"The address is one that tells me that he lived before I knew him, before I was his sweet pea, he lived this piece of time without me.' Well Sweet Pea, that is a mystery of childhood for sure. Lives are braided across eternity yet are only joined at each crossing of the threads. Thank you for sharing these wonderful poems and pictures! *smile* |

Exquisite and heartfelt. This was a very moving piece to read and absorb. Posts such as this really help me be the best dad I can be. When I stray a little from what's important it's this type of inspiration that gets my priorities back in the right order. Thank you for that. I would also say that your father must have been a lucky man to have such a kindhearted daughter. Kevin |
