Pier

Our steps blend like cream and coffee,
stirred by love and something else
so deep we don't name it.
It's a pier like every pier, made
of ancient planks and fishermen,
gulls and the necessary poet.
He sits in his own shadow
writing himself into a diary,
and we hope he puts us there today.
How many lovers have walked here?
Feet have etched the gray wood into waves
that tell of time. Which wave is ours?
Is our wave here at all or is it
one of the quick green waves below?
Are surfers riding our time right now?
Looking for it we walk the length,
old boards, new boards, and our time.
Yes we have a time and find it here
just as we were turning back.
We'll mark it with a kiss for memory
and feel the water answer from below.
Our time was a wave held up
for us on the backs of dolphins.
Now it is here, marked into this wood
forever in writing these fishermen
will never see, nor the poet dream of.

Kaz, this was really a great write.  I loved the idea of having your own wave!

How incredibly lovely! *S* You write the scene so vividly I taste the tang of salt in the air... even as I sit in a bland land-locked cubicle. *S*

Very lovely..and much enjoyed.
Hugs~

Something tugs at me, I've no doubt of that.
Something from the sea, whichever one I'm near.
When I stray too far from beachland, it calls me back

Kazm

The ocean holds so many stories...some of them are love stories.  Much enjoyed your poem!

I can't say this poem is all mine. I have two friends who kindly help me sometimes. It was important to have this one be good so I asked both of them to make suggestions before I put it here.

This is one of your best, Kaz...I'm glad you decided to post it.

You have a way with (looking for the right word) the implications of things, that is truly remarkable. Keep it up, man!

I find a different place to get lost in your words each time I read this... guess that's why I forgot to add it to my library... correcting that omission NOW! *S*
