The Measure Of A Man Many are the questions that haunt my troubled mind where the answer stalks incessantly but is often hard to find. Am I every ounce of the man I strive to be? Or, shall I be ever measured solely on dignity? The answer beckons loudly to this burdened spirit lost to dig beyond the hardened surface of this biting winter frost. To thaw the fragile words by compassion's tender light and shelter them from the disparity of every disheartened night. Deny beyond the twighlight star the foolish pride of those whose calloused hearts and troubled minds are oft' so quick to close. The foolish do not wish to bend their will with open ears to words they know will uncloak the beast and attest to all their fears. Never tally dignity in itself as much the whole to truly measure the willing one with ever-tainted soul. For the true sum of a man is forever found with his heart in his hand and his feet on the ground. Heed the words of the answer's call resounding beyond the hallowed hall. Beyond barren fields strewn by those who are left in darkness by the path they chose. Over majestic mountains and thundering seas It beckons the willing to rise from their knees. Cast away the pestilent soil that breeds disparity's soul upon tainted deeds. Be then the sum of measured man who lives beyond his dignity's span. Copyright, Kevin V. Reese, 2004 |

Another engrossing write Thank you for your talent and insight I believe the measure of a man is in all things not worldly, but more so.... faith and trust, no matter how daunting or painful a command might seem or actually be or what we might have to suffer while our faith is being tested, according to each individuals proposed necessary journey. I also believe to ask questions is to show humbleness, meaning you will never stagnate, but be ever growing, even in old age, you will accept change. Thank you for the pondering thoughts, for this yet another beautiful write and read. You have sparked many a question here. |

This is the wisdom I expect from a man in a cowboy hat. It is simple and clear, and it is all true. I would buy a hat for myself but on me it would only make people laugh and think I was a tourist. Kaz |

"Am I every ounce of the man I strive to be?" Well, from what I have gathered from reading all of your poetry thus far, I'd say you are ~ and then some! EA |
