when it came to pass that her days
and her nights were stricken with grief
-whether heaven held all those
lost to the living or not-
liquid sorrow poured freely down

but then
doubt and guilt
joined the same team
worried their way midstream
took hold and stuck
half way down

heaven holds
those that are lost to the living?
the question nags into her sleeping and tacks
itself on to each waking moment

gagging on what ifs
denial prevents the unbelief
from reaching her heart and the facts
keep it from working its way back
within reasoning’s reach

faith holds on with the strength remaining
but deep in the night
death’s undeniable finality argues
against it

this lacking in her life has now taken
her voice along with the willingness
to swallow what assurance
keeps repeating

resolution would require that the Peace
surpassing human understanding
render reassurance to remove uncertainty’s
existence but the lack of
audible answers from on High gives surety
to doubt’s survival

as long
as heaven holds
all those that are lost to the living
she prays for the peace that comes
with the lack of breathing

Listening to every heart

Sweetheart...he is safe, now...
nothing will ever hurt him again...
believe in that, please...
he is well, and happy...
and needs you to know
that all is right.

He doesn't want you to believe,
for one moment,
otherwise.

Jellybeans, Sunshine said my sentiments exactly.  I do know, for a fact, that there really is that place.  He is rocked in loving arms of unimagnable grace and love.

Sit quietly, let your world wise mind leave you and listen to the quiet breaths pass your lips.  In the stillness you will know that we are, we were and we will always be.  The truth is within us all.  We are eternal beings.

Hugs to you -- Susan

Promise you this, I know my Mother is just the other side of the veil.

Oh, my friend... I ache for you with every word... especially as I read the heartbreaking ending. It's hard to find the objectivity necessary to comment on the poem rather than the poet... for however superb the poem is, I wish my friend was spared this anguish.

"faith holds on with the strength remaining

Reality's walls are at their most thin deep in the night.  Try to find that part of you that is most deep in you; that part which has no age, no gender, no ethnicity, no false personality; that part which never sleeps.  It is that part which can tell you, inside your own frame of reference, existence continues.

I wish for you peace of mind.

This poem is so very sad that it was painful to read. I hope life changes for you soon.

thank you all...I do not question my faith, I just miss him so...and if he waits for me in Heaven, it makes the grief easier to bear...and if he doesn't...then what's the use...
I guess this is a stage of grief...I guess I will get through it....sigh...
thank you

ps...I love that thought.....even if it makes me sigh for the ones who are complete sooner than others......
