Youth Out of Season I still see with young eyes- the joy of a ladybug ...until I lean over to pick it up. I still see with young eyes- ..until I see children .............toting babies .............while loading family groceries .............in an SUV I still see with young eyes- the landing beside a waterfall’s base ...until I reach a third of the way ..............up the path I still see with young eyes- ...until I try to understand ...............the many changes ...............that have occurred since “yesterday” ...............when my thirty-four year old ...............was three I still see with young eyes- ...until I remove my trifocals ............. look around ..............and find my present ..............as blurry as my past which I thought, ...until I looked with these old eyes, ..............had been quite clear ..............to me ©June 13, 2004 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |

Yes, I agree with you. Read my reply to Sy's poem "Hunting Sleep Out of Season". My reply would be identical. It's funny how you think you can still do the things you could at 20 until you attempt to do them. There are things that seem easy even at my still somewhat young age that absolutely suck the life out of me and remind me that the clock continues to tick. I am still invincible in thougth, and in dreams but feeling a bit sore when I awake from the trials of a labored life. You convey this message every bit as poignantly as Sy did. Well done and I really enjoyed it. You know, when I think about this very thing, yes, it's frustrating, but you have to laugh at yourself. Everytime I think about what I've done to attest to your message, I laugh at myself and think, "What the Hell was I thinking." Samething I told Sy, God has a sense of humor, too. Warm regards, Kevin |

Virginia, I have always said this... Behind the eyes of the elderly (NOT US)... lies the wishes of a child...the want of youth, the hunger for vitality and the times of yesterday...when they were young. I enjoyed this immensely. Perhaps one day I shall write my own version of this, for I feel your words strongly within and without me.... |
