Seeking Roots I have come back to this little church to see The people who have carved my destiny They’re the roots of my beginning They’re the mirror of my face And I’ve come back just to ponder In a corner of this place I am looking through a window of the past To the lives which offer peace to me at last They are dust beneath a tombstone But they once were flesh and bone And the blood that is connected To this lifetime of my own I have come to read the pages that are scrolled So neatly in the record books of old They are names without a face They’re just words upon a page But they once sowed seeds of courage That would reap another age I have come here to discover who I am For my heritage came from another man He was father of the children With the woman by his side And I’m weeping tears of kinship For the roots that grow inside I have come back to a place that bears my name Where the fathers of my fathers still remain They’re the wellspring of my waters They’re an image of my face And I’ve come here just to ponder In a corner of this place Elizabeth Santos |

But they once were flesh and bone And the blood that is connected To this lifetime of my own I have come to read the pages that are scrolled So neatly in the record books of old They are names without a face They’re just words upon a page ================================ you turn words on a page into cadenced magic. Lovely write of exploration and discovery dear poetess of grace. |

have come back to a place that bears my name Where the fathers of my fathers still remain They’re the wellspring of my waters They’re an image of my face And I’ve come here just to ponder In a corner of this place Hi Liz, this was a wonderful write and read...it is really something, to find out who was where in what year, knowing you are part of someone's life. Maybe we are even in some situations, related to some American Indians....Awesome! So very much enjoyed this lovely read...you are indeed lucky to have had this opportunity. Love and hugs...Lee J. |

Liz It is a good thing to seek, if only because it makes such lovely poetic thought. |

I have come here to discover who I am For my heritage came from another man He was father of the children With the woman by his side And I’m weeping tears of kinship For the roots that grow inside ~*~ If ye shall Seek, then be not troubled at what you find... for we are only human, after all... [a bit of advice from a grandparent to me, after I insisted that there had to be more to my heritage than I knew...] Wonderful poem, Elizabeth...my kind of reading! |
