Muse Flea Markets

It happens when the moon is full, this trading of our thought
We wrestle with these fragments that often come to naught.
”It’s for the sake of love” we write and “dirty rotten bum.”
These bits of verse spin ‘round our brains until we’re feeling dumb.

With Polyhymnia, Erato wends her merry way.
We try so hard, but friend our thoughts are traded every day.
You’re in the car and presto, you can hardly wait to park it,
You want to write a thought that’s gone to the Muse Flea Market.

My thoughts have vaporized so fast, I couldn’t write them down.
Entire novels I have lost. ‘Twould bring me great reknown.
I never knew how thoughts could fly, I’ve simply no excuse.
But then I learned how thoughts are sold, or traded muse to muse.

“I love you” is a common phrase, we use it all the time.
So it doesn’t draw much money where the muses trade a rhyme.
But “amber mists lie sleepily in gnarled cypress trees”
Just flies right out the window and muses don’t say please.

So if you’re vexed by such a loss as I’ve recorded here,
Take comfort from the knowledge that you’re giving muses cheer.
I see them sipping ouzo by a spreading maple tree
And laughing at our plight, no doubt while on a drunken spree.

I’ve tried so hard to write good verse, I’m really quite sincere.
And share it for your pleasure too, you friends who gather here.
While rhymes for me are easier, fine imagery is not.
Methinks my muse trades poorly, she’s something of a snot.

I could go on and on, I ‘spose, regaling you with tales
Of how my cleverness was sold at some muses’ sales.
I’d rather whine at thievery of my noble verse.
”Be Still” my muse retorts to me, “Without me you’ll do worse!”

How true this is...
muses are amazing in all ways...
but yours has entertained us...always!

Ah Ken this is wonderful writing!!
*if only I could rhyme like this*
I do hope my muse is taking notes on how to write in perfect rhyme...
And, I do believe I heard mine giggle along with yours
from high up in a maple tree after drinking ouzo!
Love this keeper m'friend.
