Beauty Sleep

I’ve broken my word again, broke it
like always; told you there’d be dust
on this bottle by now but here I am
at three a.m., looking for numb
so I can be all right, or pretend
well enough to pass.
It’s not the love,
it’s what comes behind it
running me like a wolf
or a post-trauma lockup.

This doesn’t cure, nothing will.
Right now I don’t care, stranded
in the dark of me and the day,
looking for the right recipe
of pills and alcohol so I can be
unconscious until dawn gives me
an excuse, levers me awake
or whatever this is I’m in.

One of these daynights I’ll hit
a mismatch on one of them
but at least I won’t feel it.
Sometimes even this doesn’t work
but everything has a price,
and if this is the cost of loving you
then it’s cheap; I’d pay twice.

the whole thing is great, but the ending?
I love the ending!

The first lines let me know that this was going to be gripping... still I didn't expect to be touched so powerfully.
I have long acquaintance with 3 am's... and reading this

Right now I don’t care, stranded
in the dark of me and the day,
looking for the right recipe
of pills and alcohol so I can be
unconscious until dawn gives me
an excuse, levers me awake
or whatever this is I’m in.

brought tears... both of sympathy and empathy. *S* But then... what an incredible ending! For yes... some things are worth any price.

and if this is the cost of loving you
then it’s cheap; I’d pay twice.

Fantastic work!
