Sometimes I Wish Sometimes I wish I could sleep without ever having known you. A deep, restful sleep – free of you, all thought of you, knowledge of you – without you. When we lay in bed together, lights out, breathing normally again, speaking nonsense things, voices dropping to a whisper, yours fading until I barely hear you breathe . . . I want so badly to touch you, to softly stroke your skin, to feel the heat of you beneath my hand, to clasp you in my arms . . . Sometimes I wish I could sleep without ever having known you, but I lay here barely touching your hip with mine, breathing breathlessly, feeling your warmth circulating round and through my heart, filling my soul with . . . l o v e.
