The candle has been burning at both ends
And the flame is growing near
To scorch of hand

I reach for you to help me
You, an apparition
Of what I thought you were
Of what I wished you to be

I have lost track of whom
Put match to wick
Just knowing I want it to stop
Burning me so

Yet I can’t just let go
And walk away
Letting the flame
Slowly burn out

So I wear the blisters
Of my own invite

"cast me gently into the morning, for the night has been unkind"
~Sarah McLachlan~

funny how your thinking of nothing at all, then, like it was just yesterday, in floats a memory vision...

Lovely write

I was going to highlight certain verses Susan when I realized they mesh so well there is no way to separate them.....well for me anyhow because I am identifying with this so very much right now...
Hugs girl....

So I wear the blisters
Of my own invite

Okay I must confess...the last line Duncan edited (don't send anything to him you DON'T want edited...)

the word "invite" was from Duncan.

But thank you all for the wonderful responses.

Such a sad story and depicted so well with the candle lit at both ends analogy.  Great write.

I don't care, it's the whole thing, pretty lady. So give yourself credit. (and, nice one Dunc.)

some more beautiful, aching lines...

Put match to wick
Just knowing I want it to stop
Burning me so

Awesome write Susan

I have lost track of whom
Put match to wick
Just knowing I want it to stop

Knowing doesn't help anyway

"I reach for you to help me
You, an apparition
Of what I thought you were
Of what I wished you to be"

Very cool verse, it's got a distinct ethereal tone.
But I would've thought you'd be used to the by now.

"the last line Duncan edited (don't send anything to him you DON'T want edited...)"

First, let me say...

I guess this means you'd rather I not offer my editing service unless solicited in the future???
Sure, no problem.
As I recall, I thought your choice of word was...perfect.
