Pocket Veto

Clouds run ashore all day
promising what we ask.

“Soon, soon,” they say
in turns of gray under gray.
It deepens through the
afternoon, all horizon
inland gone, wind lifting
in the cooling air,
but no rain comes.

Slowly gray gives way
to white and shades
of blue, until a pale
yellow sunset and
a few desultory stars.

All night the river rises.

You had me with the title. *S* For I think I'd rather be given an honest NO that at least indicates I'm worthy of an answer... than be left to accept that apathy says no, also. *S*

But whatever paths my thoughts were on prior to reading the rest of your words, your incredible images grabbed my attention! *S*

This is magnificent, my friend. *S*

Indeed the weather changes ...its patterns are so hard to predict.  Perhaps, "soon, soon" is a postive way to view the possibility of many things.  I enjoyed the imagery and thought behind this poem.

I take it the storm has hit -- of course, my interpretaton may be way off.  Anyway, it's always interesting to take a stab at deciphering your analogies and metaphors, and always enjoy your writing.

Ratleader,
I couldn't agree more with icebox.  You also have great versatility as shown in your Little Red Riding Hood Poem.
Enjoyed the title and quality poem.

Nice pic you have painted with few words.  Well done.  I enjoyed it quite a bit.
